This great room already had a beautiful color palette of warm golden and cinnamon tones. The family had also recently purchased custom draperies for the space, so it gave me a good starting point to create a casual, inviting space the clients were seeking. one that inspired family gatherings in the central part of the home. We all know that during the teenage years, kids are sequestered in their rooms until the proverbial dinner bell rings.
The first thing we wanted to do was move the furniture away from the walls. After a couple of layout options, we landed on this one, creating the look of an “L” shaped sectional by using 2 sofas. This also allows for increased design flexibility in the long run. We considered purchasing ready made bookshelves with a TV on the left side of the fireplace, but custom built-ins, and a TV mounted above the fireplace won. Making this work was important for the symmetry my clients wanted.
PULL DOWN TV MOUNT TO THE RESCUE
We were a bit concerned about the television placement being hung too high, but discovered a perfect remedy with a pull down TV mount….click here for details. (PULL DOWN TV ) Like magic, the tv lowers and even pivots for easy tv viewing….say what?! It was PERFECT.
In a highly used area like the family room, durability is king. We chose a resilient high endurance fabric to upholster both the sofas and cocktail ottoman. We went for texture and a pop of color for the pillows.
Console, art and extra seating
While ottomans are a perfect option for extra seating , storage provides an added bonus. If your room needs a little energy and fun, choose ottomans with unique patterns or colors.
Ceiling fan and side tables
We chose accessories that were earthy, whimsical, bold and fun for this 5 member family.
I think we achieved comfy, cozy
Inviting and fun
With the tv front and center
And an ottoman large enough for game playing, kicking up your feet and chillaxin
Did this refresh inspire family fun? Did the kids come out of their rooms?
Yes they did! My client shared these pics. I think our mission was accomplished. And it all started with our initial meeting. How do you want your space to feel and what goals do you have for the space?
